Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Sat. March 12
It’s time again for everyone’s favorite parade of all things green! This Saturday, March 12th, it’s the Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade and everyone is invited to come dressed in their favorite green outfit and join in. Every year this nonprofit, community-wide event honors all of our local public safety personnel by celebrating and inspiring sustainability in the hope of making our city a cleaner, greener and safer place we call home
The parade is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community as hundreds of residents and visitors flock to the streets of downtown Bellingham. The parade committee invites marching bands, neighborhood associations, schools, musical groups, dancers and local businesses to participate. Entry is free and open to all family-friendly, non-political groups. The parade committee encourages floats, cars, and marching bands to register by visiting stpatsbham.com. Everyone else may just show up at the staging area in your finest green. The staging area of the parade is located in the parking lot of Woodsmiths, the Habitat Store, Cool Beans Espresso, Mobile Music and Two Thimbles. Line-up is between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
While green is the goal, vehicles are not prohibited. Decorate your float with reclaimed, recycled or reusable materials. Make a leprechaun costume by shopping at one of Bellingham’s many thrift stores! Bike to the parade or better yet, bike in the parade! Walk downtown with your family and watch the parade, or walk in it yourselves! We just want to see you out there celebrating sustainability and our wonderful Bellingham community.
Each year, the Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee carefully selects a Grand Marshal to lead the parade down the streets of Downtown. The representative chosen exemplifies superior qualities of leadership, a strong dedication to our community and an overall positive attitude. This year the committee has selected Todd Elsworth to be the Grand Marshal of the parade. Anyone who comes within 10 feet of Todd Elsworth can’t help but find themselves drawn to his charismatic personality and contagious positivity. Arriving in Bellingham in 2001, Todd wasted no time getting involved with non-profits, environmental stewardship and community outreach. In the last 15 years, Todd has become a well-known advocate for the trails and waterways that he loves.
