Strap On Those Running Shoes – First Runs of 2017
2016 is over so it’s time to embrace the new year and all of those resolutions that we’ve made. Here in the Pacific Northwest, a very popular resolution is to run in a foot race. Whether you are taking on a 5K or a 100K, running is a great way to get into and stay in shape. There are also many wonderful causes that raise funds by holding foot races to encourage sponsors to donate, but it doesn’t take a New Years resolution to get involved. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and make something wonderful out of this fresh new year!
The Rainshadow Running Club hosts some of the more ambitious local foot race events each year on Orcas Island. The first of which will be taking place at the end of the month (Jan 28th) with the Orcas Island 25k. This race is unique in the trail-running world, with old-growth forests, tough climbs, and spectacular views of surrounding islands, mountains, and the Puget Sound – but what truly sets it apart is the chance to hang out all weekend on a gorgeous island with your trail running friends. 25k not ambitious enough for you? Not a problem! February brings with it the Orcas Island 50K (Feb 4th) and the Orcas Island 100K (Feb 24th-26th).
The Orcas Island 25K and 50K have already sold out for 2017. But there is still time to sign up for the 100K! If this is the first you’ve heard of these races and would like to get involved you can find more information at RainshadowRunning.com.
Questions? The race director for all Rainshadow Running Club races is James Varner. If you are interested in volunteering for the race, please email volunteer@rainshadowrunning.com. You can also check out Rainshadow’s Facebook group.
